It’s the latest addition to the social media family, and with all the buzz surrounding the launch, now is a great time to create your Google+ business page and start adding expanding your business 'circles'.


With Google’s ‘Direct-Connect’, it’s easy for people to find brands and companies on Google search and then follow them on Google+; great news, particularly if you’re a small business, trying to get found. A Google+ page can potentially lead to more traffic to your website and is another means of engaging your followers, provided you use it wisely, of course. As Google+ takes off, it’s possible that an active and popular Google+ page may elevate your website in the search engine rankings, and Google+ posts are starting to show up in the search results for brands that have enabled Direct Connect.


You need to have a Google account to create a Google+ page. ‘Hubspot’ also points out that it may be a good idea to create a google account that is accessible by your whole team (at the moment, multiple administrators is not possible with Google+).

Once you have set up your account, you should be able to see a link: ‘ Create a Google+ page’ or you can simply go to

Then follow the steps in the step-by-step wizard, which are easy to follow: Customise your profile and add people to your circle.

One thing that I have learned is that a Google+ page can only add it’s followers to it’s circles, i.e. You add someone to your circles and they will be sent a notification and can then choose to follow you. Only then will they actually appear in your circles.

Once you have established your page, you can start to follow relevant pages/profiles, share things in Google+ and ‘+1’ comments/photos. People can also start to +1 your page.

Promote your Page

There is a Google+ help page which gives you ideas to get started. You can promote your page by adding fresh, relevant content, promoting links that are relevant to your business (adding your own thoughts to the link), using the Google+ ‘spread the word’ link and also using the links which exist between Google+ and Adwords.

Tips for keeping your Google+ page Interesting

  • Keep your content fresh and up to date by posting regularly and publicly

  • Share tips and information about your own area of expertise

  • Put interesting visuals: video links, photos and infographics on your page

  • ‘Reshare’ good content from other people

  • Share business promotions and competitions on your page

  • Tag a specific user of your page in posts which are relevant to them
